New regulations for allergens in wine – Fera provides analytical support

Monday 23 July 2012

Recent amendments to European Commission Directive 2007/68/EC require that milk and egg products used in food and drink manufacturing are declared on product labelling. In the UK, the Food Labelling (Declarations of Allergens) (England) Regulations 2011/402 enforce these provisions (similar legislation exists for Scotland and Wales).

From 2012 harvest onwards, wine producers will be required to label for fining agents (egg and milk products) when present at ≤ 0.25 mg/litre.

Fera offers a testing service for the three main egg and milk allergens found in wine - casein (milk), ovalbumin (egg), lysozyme (egg).
