Genetically Modified varieties

GM Policy

The Government set out its policy on the commercial cultivation of GM crops in a Statement to Parliament in March 2004. The Government has concluded that there is no scientific case for a blanket ban on the cultivation of GM crops in the UK, but that proposed uses need to be assessed for safety on a case-by-case basis.

Fera GM Inspectorate

For information concerning the work of Fera's GM Inspectorate and their seed audit programme please visit www.gm-inspectorate.gov.uk.

The GM Inspectorate undertakes voluntary audits of seed importers and producers to assist them in their duties in ensuring they take appropriate steps to minimise the risks of adventitious presence of GM seed in their conventional seed.
