Home Environment Environmental Risk Assessment Fate and behaviour of chemicals

Fate and behaviour of chemicals

Assessing the fate and behaviour of chemicals in the environment is a particular strength of Fera. Through use of experimental methods and advanced computer modelling, we can provide clients with robust data on the mechanisms, route and rates of degradation, and the risks degradates pose to human or environmental health. The studies we undertake on a routine basis include:

  • FOCUS surface water and FOCUS groundwater calculations
  • Higher-tier calculation of predicted environmental concentrations, including methods specific to individual Member States
  • UK drainflow modelling
  • Field studies for transport of chemicals via leaching, drainflow or surface runoff, including study locations across Europe
  • Calculation of predicted environmental concentrations for human and veterinary pharmaceuticals
  • Sorption and degradation of herbicides on man-made materials
  • Use of QSAR techniques, e.g. to assess metabolites

We have expertise in pesticides, veterinary medicines, industrial chemicals, household chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and nanomaterials.
