The GDS office will be staffed between 09:00 and 16:00 Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays and Civil Service privilege days), but the Service will be able to respond following CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear) or major HAZMAT (HAZardous MATerials) incidents on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year.

Travelling to GDS at MoD Stafford
GDS is based on a secure military site and visitors are only admitted by prior arrangement. Proof of identity will need to be produced to obtain a security pass for the site. A Passport or Driving Licence is recommended.
Road (from M6 North and South
1. Exit at Junction 14.
2. From the North take the first exit at the roundabout onto the A34 for 0.6 miles. From the South take the third exit at the roundabout onto the A34 for 0.6 miles.
3. At the roundabout, take the second exit and continue on the A34 for a further 0.1 miles.
4. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the A513 Beaconside for 1.5 miles.
5. The entrance to MoD Stafford is on the left 120 yards after the Sandon Road traffic lights.
ON ARRIVAL at the site, park in the visitors area and report to the Main Guardroom. MoD Stafford is a secure military site, visitors are only admitted to the site by prior arrangement. Proof of identity will have to be produced to obtain a day pass for yourself and your vehicle. A Passport or Driving Licence is recommended. Staff in the guardroom will direct you to the GDS building.
Rail
Stafford station is a principle station on the West Coast Main Line. The West Coast Main Line serves principle stations between London Euston, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Train times are available from http://www.nationalrail.co.uk
Taxi
The main taxi rank is located outside the railway station. You should ask to be taken to the main entrance at MoD Stafford on Beaconside. (People in the Stafford area may still refer to the site as RAF Stafford, because the site was occupied by the RAF for more than fifty years). The journey by taxi normally takes 10-15 minutes. Visitors without a pass will need to report the Guardroom to obtain a security pass. See "ON ARRIVAL" details above.
Westside Taxis (Tel: +44 (0) 1785 225588) have a number of drivers who hold passes for MoD Stafford.
Bus
The number 5 bus connects the base with Stafford town centre. The terminus for this service is outside of the main entrance to MoD Stafford. The service starts in Chell Road by Sainbury's. This is 5 minutes walk from the railway station. Visitors without a pass will need to report the Guardroom to obtain a security pass. See "ON ARRIVAL" details above.
