Efficacy trials and testing

Fera is 'Officially Recognised' (Certificate Number 'ORETO 134') as being competent to carry out efficacy trials/tests in the United Kingdom in the following categories:

  • Agriculture/horticulture
  • Stored crops
  • Vertebrate control

Efficacy testing methods vary according to the target species and mode of action of the test compound. Our scientists are experienced in offering bespoke methodologies to fit the varying needs of our customers, from large-scale data provision for registration to smaller 'pilot' studies for new products. Each programme is fully confidential. Testing is available for a wide range of species including:

  • stored product beetles
  • public health pests including cockroaches and flies
  • poultry and dust mites
  • ants
  • and many major pests of arable and horticultural crops

We offer a range of testing environments from controlled laboratory conditions to practical semi-field and full-field trials. We recommend that initial laboratory studies are run in conjunction with phytotoxicity trials to determine the product's compatibility with a range of crop species.

Our insectary holds an unrivalled range of insect species and we are also licensed by Defra to handle non-indigenous insects.
